Pre takeoff briefing multiengine aircraft.

Discuss why a briefing is very important

Always do a “ standing “ runup “ before brakes release.

“ Looking but not seeing “

 

NEVER LET GO OF THE THROTTLES ON TAKEOFF !

Only to do the necessary actions – gear – flap

Reasons

 

-          Engine failure on takeoff run

o       Before Vr

o       After Vr

§       The importance of precomputing the performance data

o       The importance of  never lifting off before Vmc

§       What to do if you get airborne below Vmc

§       Your only chance is closing throttles and land straight ahead

o       Refer to the PTS / Lesson 4

-          Engine failure on climb out

o       High P-factor / high angle of attack

o       The importance of reaching a safe altitude / airspeed accuracy

§       75 – 82 - 88

o       Airspeed – Mixture / Prop / Throttle - Identify – Verify – Feather – Return

o       “ Cleaning up “ the aircraft

§       Flaps, then gear

§       Leave gear down until no more runway remains

o       Airspeed is more important than Altitude

§       Good aircraft control

§       Saves remaining engine

o       Checklists – Single pilot / Crew

 

-          Engine failure enroute

o       Airspeed - Mixture / Prop / Throttle - Identify – Verify ……..

o       Sweepcheck – THEN :

§       Try to analyze / investigate possible causes

§       Do it in a calm and analyzing manner, don`rush it !

§       When all means for a restart have been tried – Go for the secure engine !

o       SECURE ENGINE Checklist

§       Refer to the POH

o       The importance of  position awareness

§       Knowing the nearest airport

o       Airspeed is more important than Altitude

§       Good aircraft control

§       Saves remaining engine

o       Refering to the PTS standards

-          Engine failure on approach

-          The main concern is AVIATE – NAVIGATE – COMMUNICATE !

o       Fly the approach !!! Remember a missed approach may not be possible !

o       Configure the aircraft for single engine flight !

o       Airspeed – Mixture / Prop / Throttle - Identify – Verify ………

§       Clean up aircraft

o       Basically the same actions as enroute failure

§       RESTART CHECKLIST if appropriate

o       FEATHER ENGINE

§       SECURE ENGINE Checklist if appropriate

-          Single engine go around

o       Knowing how poor the performance will be in this situation.
